PELHAM, N.Y. – The Pelham volleyball team treated its fans and the student body to another championship season, winning the Section 1 Class B title for the second consecutive year.

The volleyball title and the ice hockey championship were among the top sports stories in Pelham in 2012.

Even though the Pelicans graduated a talented, deep class in 2012, Helen Gandler and Tori Bowser led the team to the title and a return trip to the state final four.

Pelham defeated nemesis Hendrick Hudson in the Section 1 Class B final. The Pelicans lost the first set before storming back to take the next three.

The ice hockey team defeated Scarsdale, 3-2, in the Section 1 Division II final at West Point. Andrew Schauer snapped a 2-2 tie with a goal in the third period.

Pelham won the Division II ice hockey championship for the second consecutive year and sixth time since 2000. The Pelicans advanced to the state final four but lost in a semifinal.

Pelham right-handed pitcher Anthony Senerchia opened his senior year on a roll with 10 shutout innings in his first two appearances for the baseball team.

Senerchia tossed three innings in relief in a Pelham baseball victory against Byram Hills. He followed this up with a complete-game one-hitter against Hastings. Senerchia carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against Hastings.
