Pelham Schools Superintendent Search Moves Forward

PELHAM, N.Y. – The search is proceeding for Pelham’s new schools superintendent, school board President Lisa Kiernan said Monday.

“We’re under way,” Kiernan said.

The district began talks with the consulting firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates last month to decide how it would handle the search.

Kiernan also said the position is listed in Education Week and other educational journals.

Prior to interviews, Kiernan said, a leadership profile will be created to outline what the district wants in the new leader.

The Pelham Union Free School District has also scheduled gatherings with residents to get their input. These are at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 27 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in Pelham High School’s Alumni Hall.

“We want to hear from all members of our community,” Kiernan said.

School administrators, teachers, support staff, students, PTA council members and members of community organizations.

Kiernan also said Hazard, Young will begin looking for candidates this fall. The firm will then tell the board what candidates it feels fit the district’s needs.

The firm will then prepare the board for interviews with the candidates.

Former Superintendent Charles Wilson will be interim superintendent until June 30, 2013, following the retirement of current Superintendent Dennis Lauro on Dec. 31.
