Pelham Schools Help Parents Deal With Connecticut Shooting

PELHAM, N.Y. – The Pelham School district issued a letter to families on Friday offering ways to help children deal with the tragic shooting in Newtown, Conn.

The district suggests children and parents remain calm and reassuring when talking about the incident. Parents should also acknowledge, and show they understand their children’s feelings. The letter says parents should also take care of their own needs, and be sure to make family time a priority.

Crisis teams were assembled at both Pelham Middle School and Pelham Memorial High Schools Friday, the district said.

Counselors and psychologists are prepared to assist students as the need arises, the district said.
