McBane was born on Nov. 5, 1952, in Brooklyn to James and Day (Bonynge) McBane.
She was raised in Bronxville, graduating high school in 1970 and receiving a master's degree and doctorate in zoology from the University of New Hampshire.
McBane is survived by her husband, Kenneth Baldwin, two children, Hannah and Samuel, son-in-law Robert Dillon, and grandson Oliver McBane Dillon.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St. in Newmarket, N.H., from 4 to 7 p.m.
