Day Camp Fee Increase

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Due to a rising cost for transportation, the Pleasantville Recreation Department has decided to raise day camp fees by as much as $65 for this upcoming year.

“Over the past few years it has just cost the department more money to run the programs,” Recreation Department Supervisor Linda Bellofatto said. “Mostly transportation costs for us to bring the children to various places went up.”

Bellofatto said that this is the first time that the recreation department has raised the fees since doing so in 2008. The motion to increase registration fees was passed by the Village Board of Trustees earlier this month and is set to take place immediately.  The camps affected will be junior camp, tiny tots, and senior camp for sessions of both three and six weeks for village residents and school district residents. Each price will rise by seven percent.

Trustee member Mindy Berard said the rise in price was also to keep camp counselors happy.

“We haven’t given any of our counselors any increase in pay and in order to keep good counselors and keep the camps in good shape we would like to see them get a modest raise,” Berard said. “But this is still a good deal.”

Bellofatto said the rise in price is modest and that she does not expect it to affect registration.

“This is really not a large increase for parents to pay and we’re not expecting and sort of decline in registrations,” Bellofatto said.

The department supervisor said that the camps usually average a total of 300 children combined between the three camps. Registration for the camps will open on March 17 and it well then be determined if residents deferred from registering for the camps due to the raised cost. A full list of the prices for each camp can be found on the Village of Pleasantville’s website.
