Norwalk starting pitcher Joe Benincaso pitched 5 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball before being pulled for a pitch count as the 9-10-year-old stars defeated Ridgefield American, 6-0, in the District 1 Little League Tournament at Bill Terry Field.
Benicaso fanned six and walked three for Norwalk, which finished 3-3 in pool A and did not qualify for the elimination round. The 9-10 semifinals will be played Friday night at Scalzi Park in Stamford. Darien American will play Wilton at 5:30 p.m. National Lione will play North Stamford in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to the final Sunday at Scalzi Park. The District 1 winner will play in the state tournament, which will be hosted by Springdale.
