In the event of a powerful storm, county officials recommend putting together an emergency supply kit and maintaining it, developing an emergency plan involving their entire family and reviewing how best to stay informed during an emergency.
The county gives many tips on how to be prepared for flooding as well as power outages caused by tropical storms, hurricanes and other strong storms.
So far, only six storms have been categorized as named tropical storms this season. Only one of those storms, Andrea, made landfall in the United States as a tropical storm and none of them have increased to hurricane strength.
Hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
