Sean Dash, 21, and Jade Williams, 19, have both been charged with felony counts of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, dating back to an incident in Tarrytown early in the morning on May 18.
The two men were also charged with 14 counts of criminal possession of stolen property, 13 counts of petit larceny and one count of attempted petit larceny, all misdemeanors.
According to the indictment, shortly after 2:30 a.m. on May 18, officers from the Tarrytown Police Department spotted a man - later identified as Dash - acting suspiciously in front of a mailbox a few blocks from the Post Office. A second man, Williams, was in a nearby vehicle, acting as a lookout.
The investigation into the suspicious activity led to the discovery of a garbage bag filled with assorted mail and a mailbox key, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., noted. The bag contained 14 different victim’s mail, which had been stolen from a second mailbox in front of the Post Office.
Among the men’s alleged victim was the Village of Tarrytown School District, which had $44,380.91 worth of checks in the mail. The two were subsequently arrested by police in Tarrytown have been detained since.
Scarpino noted that bail was increased to $25,000 cash bail or bond for Dash, while it remains at $10,000 for Williams. The two are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16.
