PELHAM, N.Y. Pelhams Centre Stage, 504 Fifth Ave., was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, and 9:15 a.m. Sunday, April 1. Twelve Gerber multitools worth $600 were stolen, along with a leather sheath and other items valued at $900. Police suspect that one of the 16 people who have keys to the store committed the crime.
The burglary was reported to the Police Department at 11:54 a.m. Sunday, and upon the officers arrival, the owners wife said that she locked up the business at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The owner was called when one of the workers came to open the store Sunday morning and the door was unlocked. Police said there was no sign of forced entry to the front door, which prompted them to believe that a keyholder or a person who has access to a key stole the tools. The cash register drawer was broken, but no money had been taken. The owner said the stolen property was kept on a shelf behind the front desk.
Video surveillance footage recovered by a Pelham detective showed the burglar using a key to enter the business through the front door. The detective took the cash register drawer for evidence.
The following item was also reported by Pelham Village police:
Trouble Breathing: The Pelham Police Department was called to a Seventh Street house at 2:44 p.m. Sunday because a man was having trouble breathing. When the officer arrived, the man was sitting in his bed on the second floor. The man was using his own oxygen tank and told the officer that he had been eating a piece of chicken and felt as though a part of it was stuck in his chest, which was causing him pain. The Pelham Fire Department arrived in addition to paramedics. The man was taken to Sound Shore Medical Center to be treated.
