The Favorite Holiday Movies of Pelham Residents

PELHAM, N.Y. - Movies are popular at this time of year because people like to escape the cold and be entertained in front of the big screen. One genre of movies in particular holds a special place in people’s hearts. Holiday movies are a popular topic throughout winter and Pelham residents certainly have their favorites.

Officer Brian Hendrie of the Pelham Police Department thinks it is an easy call.

“Definitely National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” said Hendrie without hesitation.

His fellow officer, Jason Pallett, had a tougher time thinking of his favorite.

“What’s the one that says, “You’ll shoot your eye out,”” Pallett asked.

When Officer Hendrie said, “A Christmas Story,” Hendrie responded, “Put me down for that.”

Tom Quatroni, who was collecting donation for the Salvation Army at DeCicco’s Food Market, picked what some might say is the most popular holiday movie.

“It’s a Wonderful Life, I’d have to say,” said Quatroni. He had thought of A Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but settled on a movie most would not argue with.

While National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, and It’s a Wonderful Life are older movies, another local resident went with a fairly recent movie.

“The Polar Express – it was pretty good,” said Rich Schmal while delivering mail. “I saw it with my kids.”

Scott Smith thinks back to his childhood when asked what his most favorite holiday movie is.

“I like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – the old claymation movie. I grew up with it as a kid. I used to watch it every year, so it sticks out in my mind. It’s the ultimate holiday movie.”

If you have not gotten a chance to see any of these classic movies, they will be on television nonstop through Christmas Day.
