Stylist Returns to Pelham to Open New Shop

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham resident Alma Elezaj knew that the town already had several salons and barber shops on Fifth Avenue and Wolfs Lane. But she chose to turn that into a positive when she opened her new business.

“Competition makes you better,” Elezaj said.

The stylist has worked with hair for 20 years and started her career in Pelham. She went to Michigan and opened a salon 10 years ago but returned to Pelham because she missed the area.

And though Pelham already has several salons and the economy is struggling, Elezaj said she entered into her new venture with a positive attitude.

“I’ve been doing hair for so long and I’m very confident,” Elezaj said.

Elezaj opened Alma’s Salon on Nov. 16 and said former clients have already recognized her and stopped in at her new white salon with black chairs to get a haircut. She said she and her stylists, all three of whom live in Pelham and several of whom also have 20 years of experience in the field, style the hair of men, women and children.

Elezaj said that her experience sets her apart from the competition and that her passion for the work was integral to her opening the salon. She said she still gets a warm feeling when she makes her customers happy.

“We love what we do,” Elezaj said. “I really enjoy doing hair and meeting new people each day.”
