'Sexually Violent' Offender Convicted Of Attempted Rape Reports Move In Mount Vernon

A registered "sexually violent" offender convicted of rape and attempted rape has reported a move in Westchester County.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 38-year-old Michael Smith, who has moved from Valhalla to a residence on Beekman Avenue in Mount Vernon.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Smith as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Smith committed his crime against an unidentified victim in February 2004 and he was arrested by the White Plains City Police Department. Smith was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in March 2004 and sentenced to a term of 42 months in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Mount Vernon City Police Department.
