Pelham Residents Plan for a Relaxing Super Bowl

PELHAM, N.Y. – Bars will be filled throughout Pelham and the rest of Westchester County on Sunday night when the New England Patriots (15-3) take on the New York Giants (12-7) in Super Bowl XLVI. But some Pelham residents plan on taking it easy and watching the game from home or work.

“Staying home with the family,” said Depot Market manager, Mike Grund. “If it’s cold, I’ll do a fire, and then watch the game. I’m just going to enjoy it with the family – my three boys and my wife.”

Grund believes that the rematch of Super Bowl XLII, when the Giants upset the Patriots and ended their perfect season 17-14, will be a close game.

“It’s gonna be a good game and hopefully the Giants will be victorious,” said Grund. He was unsure of a final score just yet.

The lifelong Giants fan does not plan on wearing any Giants gear because of his superstitious nature.

“I’m superstitious and I haven’t worn my hat or my jersey since they beat the Jets,” Grund said.

Dave Katz, owner of the Depot Market, also plans on watching the game at home with his family, but with a very particular routine.

“Going home, putting on my lucky Dave Meggett jersey, and sitting down with my good luck charms,” Katz said.

Katz will eat dinner before the game starts because he will not be able to eat during the game. He plans on relaxing by “sitting down on my couch in my favorite spot with my feet up.” Besides his wife and two kids, his Jets fan in-laws will be watching the game at his house, but they will be rooting for the Giants. Katz expects the Giants to win 31-28.

John Rosabella plans on going to his son and daughter-in-law’s house for a Super Bowl party. The DeCicco's Food Market shopper is glad because “they’re all Giants fans.” He predicts a 28-21 Giants victory.
