Pelham PD Investigate Stolen Wallet That Wasn't Stolen

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham police made several phone calls and inquiries to try to help a man recover his allegedly stolen wallet on Wednesday but it turned out the wallet was in his house the entire time.

The man's daughter told police that on Tuesday night she put the wallet on a living room table. The man told police he had $200 in cash, his driver's license, American Express and Visa credit cards, a blank check, his Medicare card and his union card in his wallet.

The daughter reportedly said American Express called them to inform them of purchases at Victoria's Secret and Jewel Foods.

However, detective work proved that the credit card was not used at these stores locally, someone attempted to use them in a different state entirely. Police said someone tried to use the card twice at a Chicago Victoria Secret’s to buy items worth $323.47 and twice at a Chicago Jewel Foods to buy $200 worth of items. Neither transaction was processed.

Not long after, the man’s daughter contacted police to say that she found the wallet on the floor behind the bar in the house with all of the money and credit cards inside. No items were missing and the case has been closed by investigation.
