Pelham Manor School Runs Annual Christmas Boutique

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – Irene Englisch has co-chaired the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Christmas Boutique and wreath sale for five years. The boutique ended Sunday and Englisch said it would not have been possible without the help of parishioners.

“Our parish supports all of our efforts to bring success to this boutique,” Englisch said. “It’s a level of generosity that’s very much appreciated.”

Englisch also made special mention of her appreciation to Father Robert DeJulio for his help.

The event took place on both Saturday and Sunday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Fowler Avenue. Englisch, along with co-chairs Cindy Courtien and Therese Biskup, took over the event years ago after the Rosary Altar Society, which used to run the boutique, dissolved.

Englisch said they wanted to continue the wonderful work that the society had established with the annual event.

Customers could purchase a variety of items at the sale, including wreaths, baked goods and Christmas decorations. Raffles for tickets to sporting events, kitchenware and even a chance to be principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for a day were on sale. Englisch said parishioners and local businesses donated a majority of the items.

Santa Claus also sat and took pictures with children.

Marina Kolmer and Lori Anzilotti ran the silent auction tables at the boutique. Kolmer said the reserved front row seats to Christmas Eve Mass were a popular item and that the spirit of the season was evident at the sale.

“Every year, it’s great that people come out to support the parish,” Kolmer said. “It’s all about giving back.”

Anzilotti said even the church needs help in these tough economic times and that her and Kolmer’s work at the silent auction booth has become a bit of a Pelham tradition.

Kathleen Mangan, Pelham resident and Our Lady of Perpetual Help parishioner, visits the boutique almost every year. She said it offers a chance to do some Christmas shopping and see friends.

“It’s a wonderful fundraiser for the parish,” Mangan said. “It’s just a fun experience.”
