PELHAM, N.Y. - The Pelham Girl Scouts hosted their annual Bright Holidays Sing-Along in front of loved ones on Friday night. The event, which was held at the town gazebo, featured multiple Girl Scout troops singing 18 different holiday songs.
The lawn was filled with many smiling, camera-snapping parents singing along with their children to Deck the Halls, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, and many others.
According to Christine Spana, a Troop 2792 mom, the sing-along is a longstanding tradition.
Its a Girl Scouts tradition," said Spana. "They do a sing-a-long and all of the different troops come together and sing. They pick a song for the holidays.
Depot Markets executive chef David Katz was at the event with his wife and son watching his daughter, Bailey. He was thrilled to not only be there, but to live in a town like Pelham.
This is what a small towns all about, said Katz, vice president of the Pelham Chamber of Commerce. This is a small town feeling in a small town. Its why I live in a small town like this -- this kind of feeling surrounded by your friends and family.
Throughout the hour-long event, Girl Scouts from various troops sang, including Cherie Corsos daughter, Julia.
We all have so much fun together, the troop mom said. The troop has been growing. Theyve helped the homeless and sent stuff to the [military] troops. We really do a lot.
Troop 2792, which has 16 third graders, enjoyed themselves so much that they sang The 12 Days of Christmas after the sing-along had ended.
Based on the enjoyment shared by the parents and their children alike, the sing-along tradition will likely continue.
