PELHAM, N.Y. Parents who are looking to keep their children occupied next week while they are off from school have several options to choose from at the Pelham Art Center. For the creative and artistic children who want to have fun over break, the center is offering week-long workshops for various ages.
Lynn Honeysett, director of the center, is excited about the four different workshops that will going on next week.
Lets say they [parents] cant get off from work or they want something for their kids to do thats kind of creative and fun, I think all of our programs augment whatever art the kids are getting into in class and sort of enrich it a little further, said Honeysett.
The Art Makers workshop is for kids from 4-10-years-old and will run 9:30 a.m. 2:00 p.m. The rate for that class $69 for members and $77 for non-members. The Tuesday and Wednesday classes are already booked. Unlike the other workshops, you do not have to come every day of the week for this workshop.
During that workshop, children will do painting, drawing, mask making, tie dye, and much more. They will be taught by professional artists and will explore three different art activities each day. They will also have song and theater games.
The Art Center will also have the Art Masters Clay: Hand Building and Wheel Throwing workshop throughout the week, which is for kids 8-13, and lasts from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The children who sign up will be introduced and gain basic knowledge of the ceramic process, including glazing and firing. They will also learn about hand-building techniques and the pottery wheel. The price for members is $233 while the price for non-members is $255.
There are even two programs for the older kids as well.
The Media Lab AM Adobe Illustrator workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and kids from 11-16 can join. By using Adobe Illustrator and digital photography, they will create a fictitious company, design a logo, and design materials in order to promote the business. They price for members is $226 and the price for non-members is $250.
For 8-13-year-olds, the Media Lab PM Digital Fashion workshop will be a lot of fun as they learn more about fashion design using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. They will create different designs throughout the week. The price for members is $226 and the price for non-members is $250 and the program lasts from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Parents of children who might be interested in the various workshops should sign up soon as they are quickly filling up.
