PELHAM, N.Y. A man who fell to the ground after trying to stand up from a park bench Friday was given oxygen by Pelham police before being loaded into an ambulance.
Pelham police responded to a call at the park on the corner of Harmon and Fifth avenues at about 1:45 p.m. about the ill man. Eric Chiamulera and Pete Widulki had been sitting on a nearby bench when they saw the man stand up. Widulki said the man's knees started to buckle and he seemed weak in the legs.
The man fell and Chiamulera and Widulki went over to him. The man said he felt nauseous then said he felt hot and asked them to pour a bottle of water on him.
Chiamulera called 911 and the operator told him to make sure the man did not eat or drink anything.
Emergency services came soon after police gave the man oxygen. He was lifted onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.
