First Diagnosis Of Serious Respiratory Virus Confirmed In Westchester

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. --  A child who lives in a long-term care facility in Westchester and suffers from numerous chronic medical conditions has been diagnosed with EV-D68, the first such diagnosis in Westchester or Putnam, according to a report on LoHud.com.

EV-D68 is a serious respiratory illness that has affected children throughout the nation.

Enteroviruses are transmitted through close contact with an infected person, or by touching objects or surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching the mouth, nose or eyes. 

The child diagnosed is being hospitalized in a facility outside of Westchester, LoHud.com reports.
