Earthquake Rocks D.C., Reaches Pelham

PELHAM, N.Y. – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck just northwest of Washington, D.C. with the epicenter in Virginia.

The earthquake was felt as far away as New York City, Philadelphia and Martha's Vineyard, where President Barack Obama is on vacation. Some cell phone service interruption has been reported in New York City, which has been partially evacuated.

The Pelham Police Department told The Daily Pelham that a few residents called headquarters to report the shaking, but no damages occurred. Pelham Manor police said that no one has called headquarters about the earthquake, but an officer did say he felt shaking.

The Pentagon has also been evacuated.
