WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Westchester community came together recently to help about 100 girls ages 13 to 18 from families living in financial distress by holding a one-day shopping boutique dubbed Girl Topia.
Organizers displayed thousands of new and gently used donated items in the VFW Hall in Mount Vernon on April 28, a statement said.
Young shoppers from across Westchester received certificates entitling them to choose more than a week’s worth of outfits plus jewelry, shoes and a purse. Each girl also left with a gift bag full of skincare products donated by Coty Inc. and accessories, the statement said.
The Sharing Shelf, a program of Family Services of Westchester, partnered with the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church’s Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Junior League of Central Westchester, Girl Scout Troop 1878 and mother-daughter duo Mari and Hanna Galvin.
