The City has contracted with LQD WiFi LLC, a provider of integrated networks of community technology hubs, to develop the first-ever "Palo"WiFi kiosk program for the city. LQD was acquired by Verizon, the company announced Nov. 14.

Palo kiosks provide free WiFi and local information.

The Palo kiosks will offer New Rochelle residents and visitors free high-speed WiFi and public safety features.

They will include a robust community engagement program. The platform will showcase the city as an ideal place to live, work and grow, said a City release.

“These cutting-edge kiosks will present the best of what our city has to offer, for everything from cultural events, to local businesses and job opportunities, and for residents and visitors alike,” said City Manager Charles B. Strome, III.

"We designed Palo, from day one, to be part of the community, offering Wi-Fi, public safety features and a unique, interactive community engagement platform,” explained LQD Founder and CEO Randy Ramusack.

“Palo's human-scale touch screen lets users explore and connect with the local community creating multiple ways to engage, through an innovative, purposeful and curated experience."

"We recognize that a healthy future depends increasingly on robust digital infrastructure, based on cutting-edge technology, that can connect residents and businesses alike in a friendly, accessible way. Our partnership with LQD will accomplish all of these goals," said New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson.

The installation of Palo is part of New Rochelle’s multi-faceted downtown development initiative.

The first Palo kiosks will be installed in the spring.
