New Rochelle's Fashion Arts Studio Hosts Open House

The Fashion Arts Studio will host an open house on Thursday, July 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

“What many don’t realize is that fashion design isn’t about pretty fabrics, fancy sewing machines and eccentric outfits. True fashion design is the intersection of art and science. It combines right brain activities such as sketching and designing with left brain thinking such as technical pattern-making,” said Su, founder of The Fashion Arts Studio.

The Fashion Arts Studio is Westchester’s only after-school fashion design program based on STEAM.

STEAM is an educational philosophy based on emphasizing a curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, in order to best prepare children for future work in today’s world.

Su often calls on the friends and contacts she fostered in her two decades working in New York’s fashion industry.

Recently, Project Runway All Star Viktor Luna hosted a class on his specialty, fabric draping. What makes Su unique is that she brings more than just her professional work experience to the classes she teaches. As the mother of a 14-year-old girl, she understands what drives and motivates children and teens. And, she knows firsthand how to overcome personal challenges. She came to teaching after a life-altering diagnosis of systemic lupus, which resulted in Su being a kidney transplant recipient five years ago.
