Racioppo Plans Umpires vs. Coaches Fundraiser

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pleasantville High School will host the first Umpires vs. Coaches for Cancer Awareness game at 4 p.m. June 8, umpire Joseph Racioppo wrote in an email.

Racioppo, an umpire with the Westchester County Umpires Association, lost his wife to cancer last year and organized this year’s event. Thirteen umpires and about 13 coaches will participate in the game for bragging rights.

The game has been in the works for several months. David Griner, president of the Umpires Association, invited Racioppo to speak at a coaches meeting in February. Section 1 baseball representatives Phil DiRocco and Pat Admendola were also instrumental in organizing the game.

The game will be either seven or nine innings, and awards will be handed out Michael’s Tavern in Pleasantville. Owners Doug and Nancy Crossett are friends with Racioppo and have helped him with similar projects for the past 12 years.
