Pelham Youth Rugby Plays First Fall Scrimmage

PELHAM, N.Y. – The Pelham Rugby Club traveled to Greenwich, Conn., on Sunday to participate in a few scrimmages.

Some of the players on the under-13 team competed in their first tackle rugby games as older players and coaches cheered them on from the sidelines.

The under-15 team played in a three-way scrimmage with Manhattan Youth Rugby and Greenwich U15. Pelham’s U15 team has gone undefeated the past two seasons in the spring league.

The Pelham Rugby Club also, for the first time, named a Player of the Game for each of its two teams. Conner Evans earned that honor for the U13 team, and Kees Huisman did so for the U15 team.

Pelham will next play at home on Ingalls Field on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m. The U13 team will play first and the U15 team second.

Pelham Youth Rugby is open to all children in grades two through nine for flag rugby and grades six through nine for tackle rugby. Those interested can visit the Town of Pelham Recreation Department website or contact Matthew Persanis at mp@elefantepersanis.com.
