Pelham Youth Rugby Earns Big Win On Sunday

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham Youth Rugby’s under-13 team earned its first win of the fall season against league rival Long Island’s U13 team on Sunday.

Pelham defeated Long Island 12 tries to nine to earn a measure of revenge against a team that beat Pelham twice last season. Pelham held a two try lead at halftime but Long Island quickly tied it in the second half. Pelham then scored four tries to Long Island’s one to help to earn the win.

Woods Johnson earned Player of the Week honors for Pelham’s U13 team.

After the game, New York Rugby Club’s coach went up to Sofia Imperato, Pelham’s best female player, about playing for the NY Metro girls all-star team this summer.

The under-15 team faced a tougher challenge against New York Rugby Club’s under-19 team. Fairfield Prep canceled the scheduled game, so Pelham elected to play New York as it prepares for upcoming games against Greenwich and Manhattan.

Pelham’s eighth- and ninth-graders squared off with New York’s ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-graders and put up a valiant effort but fell short, nine tries to four. Xavier Worsely earned Player of the Week honors for Pelham.

Here are the full rosters for Pelham’s U13 and U15 teams.
