PELHAM, N.Y. -- Pelham Youth Rugby Coaches Toby L’Estrange and Adam Siddall put down their whistles and suited up for an international rugby match in Philadelphia, Pa. recently.
L’Estrange and Siddall were part of the USA Eagles, who took on the New Zealand Maori All-Blacks, one of the top rugby teams in the world, at PPL Park.
The Eagles played in front of a sellout crowd of 18,500. Included in that crowd were 64 players, parents and coaches from Pelham Youth Rugby who made the trip to watch their coaches in action.
The Eagles fell to the international rugby power 29-19, but Sidall filled the score sheet with four penalty goals and one conversion.
Players from the U.S. team came over to the stands to greet the Pelham players after the game.
L’Estrange texted Pelham Director of Rugby Matt Persanis, who planned the trip, and said he could hear Pelham cheering him out on the field.
