Wednesday, the teams will play for a berth in the semifinals when the fourth-seeded Pelicans host the fifth-seeded Raiders 6 p.m. at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the teams. Pelham posted a 4-2 victory Jan. 25 at Murray’s Ice Rink in Yonkers.

“In the game we played them earlier this season, we had just gotten our best forward back and he really stepped up for us,” said senior and captain David Morgan of linemate Andrew Schauer. “Also, like all games, we played good team defense holding them to two goals.”

Pelham, 11-5-2 this season, defeated the Sleepy Hollow/Irvington/Dobbs Ferry high school team, 7-1, in its first-round game. The Pelicans have won six of their last seven as they strive for their third consecutive sectional championship.

Scarsdale High School, 12-7-1 on the season, advanced with a 7-1 first-round win over Brewster High School.

The winner of the Pelham-Scarsdale game will play the No. 8 Pearl River High School-No. 1 John Jay-Cross River High School winner in a semifinal.

Pelham expects a fired-up Scarsdale team when it takes the ice Wednesday.

“Scarsdale is going to come out harder than ever and we have to be ready for them,” Morgan said. “The best thing we can do is play solid team defense once again.”

Scarsdale is led by James Nicholas, who has 30 goals and 33 assists, and Matthew Blakley, who has 20 goals and 26 assists.

Even though Pelham is seeded fourth, Morgan and his teammates were not angry.

“We knew that with the schedule we played, we would not be seeded high,” said Morgan, who has seven goals and 11 assists. “But I would rather play those tough games and lose than play those easy games and win.”
