ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- Pelham came into a four-team scrimmage, Friday, and walked out with a perfect record. The Pelicans, Section 1 Class A semifinalists, played three games with Mahopac and two each with Harrison and Ardsley.
I am happy with the way we played today, senior Lauren Keller said. We played very well Tuesday in our scrimmage and today just continues to help us get into the swing of things.
Pelham faced Panas, the 2010 Section 1 Class B runners-up, and Section 9 power Rhinebeck, Tuesday. Pelham will close the week with a scrimmage at Ossining, Saturday.
We definitely had a tighter and cleaner today, Keller said. We improved upon Tuesdays scrimmage. Our passing and our hitting were very good. On our hits, we were manipulating the court and hitting to all spots.
Pelham was without junior and starter Devi Kinkhabwala, who sat out with a minor injury. The Pelicans received a lift from both Amanda Demspey, a returning varsity player, and newcomer, junior Helen Gandler.
Dempsey was impressive in the final game for Pelham. The junior was spiking the ball effectively on the outside, registering numerous kills. Junior newcomer Kate Collins, the second setter behind Keller, had an excellent game, with at least a dozen assists against Mahopac to close the day.
Devi is one of our best players and when she went down Tuesday, everyone had to step up, said Keller, who sat out the last game and was a statastician. Amanda, Helen and Kate all played great.
