PELHAM, N.Y. – The Pelham Rugby Club participated in the second annual Harlem Rugby Cup at the Harlem Armory’s indoor facilities earlier this month.
It was the first time the club participated in the event, which was held on Super Bowl Sunday.
Pelham, which had not played since the end of the fall 2012 season, had never played on an indoor field prior to the Harlem Rugby Cup. Despite a valiant effort, the team did not advance into the final matches.
Play Rugby USA, which sponsored the tournament, introduced the “Go Forward Award” at the Harlem Rugby Cup to honor one player from each team that best showed the “Four A’s of Achievement”: athleticism, attendance, attitude and academics. Grant Roll won the award for Pelham.
Teams from several public schools throughout New York City also took part in the event.
