PELHAM, N.Y. The Pelham Memorial High School football team may finally get a respite when it hosts winless Mount Vernon on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Pelicans faced powerhouse opponents in weeks one and two in Poughkeepsie and Somers, respectively. Poughkeepsie blanked Pelham, 33-0, in the season opener, and Somers followed suit with a 40-0 drubbing on Friday.
Pelham has yet to score a touchdown this season, but Mount Vernon has not fared much better. The Knights lost 34-8 at Carmel in the season opener and then fell to Mamaroneck, 29-6, on Saturday.
Depth has been an issue for Pelham so far this season. One of the few bright spots has been senior fullback and linebacker Jon Miller, who will need to exploit the Knights weak rushing defense on Saturday.
Mount Vernon gave up more than 150 rushing yards to Mamaroneck, so Miller and the rest of Pelhams rushers will likely need to wear down the Knights defense in order to earn the win.
