Pelham Diver Gets Silver At Final National Event

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham diver Jennifer Bell wrapped up an impressive showing at the AAU National Diving Championships in Huntersville, N.C. with a silver medal in her third and final event on Saturday.

Bell placed second in the one-meter springboard event in the Girls 11-year-old division.  She held the lead going into the last dive of the finals, but she scored low on a dive at which she usually excels, a 5223D Back 1 Somersault 1-1/2 Twist Free.

That allowed Faith Newton, a diver from Georgia, to leapfrog Bell by performing the exact same dive and taking the gold medal. Newton finished with 153.45 points, while Bell tallied 141.90 points.

Bell had finished first in the preliminaries Saturday morning with 155.80 points and Newton placed second with 141.70 points.

Bell is tied for first place in the Individual High Points category with 50.00 points with Karlee Price, a 13-year-old diver from Florida. The category measures the performance of all female divers of all ages at the AAU National Diving Championships.

She finished with a gold medal in the three-meter springboard and silver medals on the platform and one-meter springboard.
