Details are still being worked out, but according to city spokesperson Kathy Gilwit, the city is planning a hometown celebration sometime in the next two weeks for Rice, who grew up in New Rochelle. The Baltimore Ravens bested the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31 on Sunday evening in New Orleans. Gilwit added that Baltimore will be getting having its own hometown celebration first before Rice will return to New Rochelle.
Mayor Noam Bramson said in a statement, “Ray’s talent on the field is matched by his strength of character off the field. In addition to being a great role model for youngsters, Ray has also contributed his time and energy to countless programs in New Rochelle. We are very proud of all that Ray has achieved, and are looking forward to celebrating the terrific season and now Super Bowl victory of our hometown hero."
