McDonough Serves Pelham Volleyball to Sweep

PELHAM, N.Y. -- Midway through its first game, Pelham found itself trailing visiting Westlake by a couple of points in their volleyball match. Pelham coach Mark Finegan called a timeout to settle his team down. After the time out, Pelham took control of the game and would go on to sweep the match, 25-21, 25-11, 25-18, Monday.

Senior Lauren Keller led Pelham with 27 assists and also added four aces. Senior Meghan McDonough rang up a Pelham single-game record 10 service aces. Tori Browser had a Pelham-best nine kills and two blocks and Helen Gandler contributed eight kills.

“We were down either 18-16 or 17-15 when coach called a time out,” Keller said. “We told each other we did not want to lose a set. After the timeout, Tori Browser had a great kill and that’s when I felt the momentum change. Then we went on a service run.”

That service run would carry over into the second game as McDonough was unstoppable. “Meghan has a really strong serve,” Keller said. “She was on her game with her serve, especially in the second game. Meghan was able to hit certain spots and their defense was unable to adjust to her serve. She was able to place it wherever she wanted to.”

McDonough and Keller were the only Pelham players to serve in the second game. Pelham, now 2-0, will play Eastchester, Tuesday, at 4;15 p.m.
