Coming off two wins over arch rival Scarsdale, the Tigers are now 10-1 and have set their sights on a possible league championship, according to MHS Coach Adam Rizzuti.
That would qualify the Tiger golfers for a trip to the Conference Championship. While being led by low medalists freshman Nolan Forsman and senior Harrison Eisberg, the entire squad, including freshman Jake Silverman, senior Zach Zola, eighth grader Jake Antinelli and sophomore Jared Freifeld, has pitched in to give the team a shot at Team Sectionals.
At least two players -- and perhaps as many as four or five, have a good chance at making it to individual sectionals at Waccabuc on May 23, Rizzuti said.
"Everyone has bettered their average over 2015, some members of the team shaving off as many as six strokes off their nine hole match averages," Rizzuti told Daily Voice on Friday.
"This is an excellent team, with great team chemistry. If one guy has a bad day, the rest of the team has been able to pick him up. Every member has contributed and we look forward to a bright, young future," Rizzuti said.
This is a high school golf program that has really turned around. Just five years ago, Mamaroneck's team was struggling and "interest in the sport seemed to be down," Rizzuti said.
This season, seven eighth graders tried out for the varsity golf squad, which already enjoyed a full roster of seasoned golfers.
"I was only able to carry one," Rizzuti said
