Keith Twirls Two-Hitter in Pelham 2-0 Softball Win

PELHAM, N.Y. — Kelly Keith tossed a two-hitter and struck out six, leading Pelham to a 2-0 victory over visiting White Plains in a Section 1 softball game Tuesday.

It was Keith' second shutout of the season. She also doubled in Pelham's first run in the sixth inning and closed the game by striking out the side in the seventh. The win followed Pelham's first loss of the season on Saturday against undefeated Pearl River, the four-time defending Section 1 Class A champion.

"Kelly showed guts today and got stronger as the game went on," Pelham coach Keith Maley said. "The girls stayed very composed defensively in a tight game against a well-coached team with a quality pitcher."

Shortstop Meghan Reynolds turned in the defensive play of the game. In the sixth inning, White Plains had a runner on third with one out and its No. 3 hitter up. Reynolds fielded a sharply hit groundball, faked a throw to first and picked off the runner at third.

Pelham struck for two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Caitie Nesi led off with single and stole second. Keith dropped a ball into right field for a double, scoring Nesi. Caitlin Hearle singled, putting runners on first and third. After an out at the plate, Hearle scampered home on a wild pitch.

Danielle Sputo pitched well in defeat, scattering five hits and striking out 11.
