Education database company Niche compiled the rankings by weighing a school's SAT/ACT scores, average score of colleges attended by graduates and percentage of graduates who attend four-year schools after graduation, Business Insider said.

Rye Country Day was the top ranked private school in Westchester, coming in at 25th overall, followed by the Hackley School in Tarrytown at No. 47.

Rye Country boasted a composite SAT range of 2080-2130 and a four-year college matriculation rate of 100 percent.

Hackley School had a slightly lower composite SAT range of 2040-2070, but still boasted a perfect four-year college matriculation rate, according to Niche.

Three private schools in New York City were ranked in the top 10, including: the Dalton School (10th), Trinity School (seventh) and the Horace Mann School (fifth).

Neighboring Brunswick School in Greenwich, Conn., also made the list at No. 33.

The title of smartest private school went to Castilleja School in Palo Alto, Calif.
