Pelham To Appoint New Assistant School Superintendent Tuesday

PELHAM, N.Y. -- Steven Garcia will be appointed the new assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and personnel for the Pelham Union Free School District at a meeting Tuesday night.

Garcia will replace Superintendent-Select Peter Giarrizzo, who officially begins his new job July 1.

Garcia is currently principal of Valhalla Middle School, serves as chairman of the K-12 Common Core & 21st Century Learning Committee and represents Valhalla Schools as a member of the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Curriculum Council. 

He received his master's and doctorate of education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and his certificate of advanced study in educational administration from the State University of New York at New Paltz.

He was one of 18 candidates screened from a pool of 123 resumes received for this position. 

The Board of Education is also scheduled to adopt the school budget for 2013-14 at the April 23 meeting. The meeting will be at 8 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
