Pelham Theater Offers Movie-Making Course for Kids

PELHAM, N.Y. – The Pelham Picture House is ready to roll out its Summer Movie Making Program to teach acting, screenwriting and directing to Pelham children in grades three through 12.

“It’s an essential part of what we do,” said theater manager Tawny Foskett. “In our mission statement, it’s like one of the main statements about the theater – that we’re very much about education.”

The program starts Monday, July 16, and continues through Friday, July 20, for grades three through five. For Pelham Memorial students, the class begins Monday, July 23, and ends Friday, July 27. Days run from 9 a.m. to noon for both sessions, and registration costs $375.

The kids are able to learn “acting, screenwriting, and directing in a weeklong, fast-paced Movie Making Program,” states the Picture House website. The focus will be on rehearsal, costume and set design, cinematography and editing, the website says.

Foskett, who does not run the program, hopes the kids will go home and talk about their excellent experience and boost attendance at other Picture House events.

“It brings in a lot of the local community,” she said. “The class is excellent and the teachers are excellent.”
