Pelham Students out of School for Rosh Hashanah

PELHAM, N.Y. – The Jewish High Holidays begin at sundown Wednesday when Rosh Hashanah starts. Students in Pelham schools will not attend classes Thursday or Friday in observance of the holiday.

Denise Amorelli, mother of two and owner of M.A.D. Café on Wolfs Lane, no longer has to worry about her 15 and 13-year-old children on days like these. The two are now old enough to be on their own when they are off from school and Amorelli had a guess as to what they would do with their time.

“They’re probably hanging out with their friends or doing some school work,” Amorelli said.

When her children were younger, Amorelli would have to find someone or something to keep them occupied. She said she would get them involved in activities at places including the Pelham Art Center to keep them busy throughout the day. She also said sports were an option.

And if those plans fell through, then Amorelli always had her mother to babysit in her place.
