PELHAM, N.Y. – Residents will have an opportunity to welcome Peter Giarrizzo as Pelham's new superintendent of schools Monday at a reception hosted by the Board of Education.

The board will formally appoint Giarrizzo, currently the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and personnel, to his new position during its meeting Monday.

Board  President Lisa Kiernan said the community is invited.

Giarrizzo is taking over from Dennis Lauro, who retired Dec. 31, but he will not officially start as superintendent until July 1.

Meanwhile, former Pelham Superintendent Charles Wilson will serve as schools chief.

The board meets at 8 p.m. Monday in Alumni Hall at Pelham High School, 18 Franklin Place.
