“We have good procedures in place now and we’ve practiced those procedures and we’re continuing to put those drills in place. There are a lot of school districts that are nowhere near as prepared as we are,” said Angelo Rubbo, assistant superintendent for business. “But what we do need is a good assessment of a foundation of understanding of our operations and to see where there may be opportunities of improvement.

Altaris Consulting Group will review current emergency management plans and procedures at each school building. Rubbo said Altaris works with several Westchester County public school districts and that the group will start observing emergency drills at each of the schools. Sometime this month, the consultants will give preliminary reports to the Board of Education that may impact the district’s current and future budgets.

The district signed a $21,600 contract with the company. Altaris will be available to the school district through June 30, not just for the audit, but also for any other issues that may come up, including safety issues like traffic during arrival and dismissal.

Moving forward, the company will work in collaboration with the police departments of Pelham and Pelham Manor, as well as representatives from the district, to make recommendations to implement changes in emergency and safety procedures.
