Pelham Schools Begin Search For New Superintendent

PELHAM, N.Y. — As it begins to figure out a plan for choosing the school district’s next leader, the Pelham Board of Education on Monday held the first of two executive session workshop meetings in the superintendent conference room of the district administrative offices.

“It’s a long process,” Pelham school board President Lisa Kiernan said.

Superintendent Dennis Lauro is set to retire Dec. 31. Former Superintendent Charles Wilson then takes over until June on a temporary basis until a new chief is hired.

The district selected Hazard Young Attea consultants July 1 to assist in finding its next leader. The district and firm will now get feedback from members of the community about what they want in their next superintendent.

The two groups will also find and develop a list of candidates to bring in to interview for the position and determine when they want to have a new superintendent selected.

The board narrowed the list of firms from eight to three in June.

The next executive session workshop will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the superintendent’s conference room located in the district administrative offices, 18 Franklin Place, Pelham.
