Pelham School Board To Present 2013-14 Budget

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham’s Interim Superintendent of Schools Charles Wilson will kick off a series of public meetings on the 2013-14 school budget Monday night.

A draft 2013-14 Pelham School District budget will be introduced at the district Board of Education meeting Monday night.

A draft 2013-14 Pelham School District budget will be introduced at the district Board of Education meeting Monday night.

Wilson will give an overview of the preliminary school budget at the Board of Education meeting at 8 p.m. in the Alumni Hall at Pelham Memorial High School. Wilson says his draft budget will reflect the direction set by the Board of Education earlier this year “to develop a budget that preserves program and class size and is within the tax cap.”

The board is looking for input from parents, teachers and community members to finalize a budget proposal for next year and a community vote on May 21. The public is encouraged to participate in all meetings, which include time for comment and questions.

On Saturday, the Board of Education will conduct its line-by-line review of the budget, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All meetings will take place at Alumni Hall, opposite the main gym of the high school on the ground level, 575 Colonial Ave., Pelham.

The draft budget will be posted online at www.pelhamschools.org on Wednesday and copies will be available at the Saturday review session.

In addition to the draft budget presentation, Peter Giarrizzo, assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and personnel, will present the district Math Task Force’s short-term and long-term recommendations for Pelham’s math program.

The task force is made up of a group of parents, teachers, administrators and school board members charged with studying the Rutgers University and Tri States Consortium evaluations. The Math Report will be posted online Monday.
