PELHAM, N.Y. Two new members of the Pelham Board of Education were sworn in Tuesday night, and a new president and vice president were chosen as the panel held its annual reorganization meeting at Pelham Memorial High School.
Lisa Kiernan and Martha R. Arden were sworn in as president and vice president, respectively. Both expressed their gratitude after being nominated and receiving a unanimous vote.
I look forward to a great year, said Kiernan. Please feel free to come to any member of the board for help.
Madeline Smith and Michael Recca, who have been actively participating in closed-door, executive session board meetings since the May election, had their membership made official. As the youngest member of the board, Recca sees getting adjusted as an agreeable part of the process.
The primary focus is getting organized and thats what this meeting was all about, said Recca. Were making sure we have all our ducks in order so we can do our best work and Im excited about that.
The board has several issues to work through. Among the priorities discussed Tuesday was the scheduling of an appropriate time to begin the search-firm process for replacing retiring Superintendent Dennis Lauro.
Also discussed was setting a date for the boards retreat, where it will be setting goals and the agenda for the new school year.
Weve got a lot of work ahead of us, said Recca. But were ready to get the ball rolling.
