Pelham Parent Prepares for School Year to Begin

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham schools will begin the 2011-2012 school year Wednesday and parents and students in the area have started to prepare. Denise Amorelli said she is looking forward to the routine of school once again.

Amorelli, who runs the M.A.D. Café on Wolfs Lane, has a son who is a sophomore at Pelham Memorial High School and a daughter in eighth grade at Pelham Middle School. She and her daughter shopped for school supplies recently and the latter has been shopping for new clothes as well.

Amorelli's daughter has also scrambled to finish other important tasks before school starts.

"She's basically having as many sleepovers as she humanly possibly can," Amorelli said.

Amorelli's son spent part of the summer with her mother-in-law in Amagansett on Long Island and her daughter spent a few weeks at sleep away camp.

The café owner said her children and their friends are rather disjointed during the summer as everyone goes away to different places but the impending school year brings them back together.

Amorelli said she and her family have become accustomed to the routine that comes with the beginning of the school year. The mother of two said she is looking forward to her children's return to school.

"It'll be kind of nice having them back," Amorelli said.
