PELHAM, N.Y. -- A retired Scarsdale school administrator will fill in as Pelham's Interim Business Official as the district prepares for the departure of Angelo Rubbo, Assistant Superintendent for Business.
Linda Purvis, a Pelham resident, was named the new Interim Business Offical for the district. She recently retired from the Scarsdale Public Schools after serving 15 years as the Assistant Superintendent for Business.
Rubbo said he will be pursuing new opportunities in his career and is leaving the district effective Dec. 31.
"Purvis brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the business office, and I look forward to working closely with her," Pelham Superintendent of Schools Peter Giarrizzo said in a statement. "The Board and I thank him (Rubbo) for his service to the district over the past 10 years and we are grateful for the extended notification that he has provided so that we can prepare for an effective and seamless transition."
Giarrizzo praised Rubbo, saying that he worked on numerous projects across the district's seven facilities to optimize teaching and learning in 100 year-old buildings and worked with the current and previous Boards of Education as well as superintendents to build budgets that have preserved programming within the confines of the tax cap.
While leading the business office, the district has consistently received clean audits, including a recent audit by the New York State Comptroller's Office, Giarrizzo said. Throughout Rubbo's tenure, the Pelham Public Schools has maintained a AAA bond rating with a positive outlook from Standard and Poor's, Giarrizzo said.
"The Board of Education and I will be working together to assess the needs of the District and will share the next steps in this important time of transition in the ensuing weeks and months," Giarrizzo said.
