The scholarship awards $5,000 to support the continuing education of an outstanding local student volunteer.

Students from both public and private schools are eligible. The Volunteer Center will accept nominations for the scholarship from local schools, nonprofit organizations, religious institutions and businesses.

The center’s scholarship selection committee will review and evaluate the nominations based on several factors, including the nominee’s commitment to volunteerism, leadership skills and a personal reference letter.

Past recipients of the scholarship have gone on to study at Harvard University, Bucknell University, the University of North Carolina and Loyola Marymount University.

The sholarship will be awarded at the annual Heart of Gold Award Dinner taking place on Thursday, May 12.

Applications are due at The Volunteer Center, 1150 Summer Street, second floor, by Friday, Jan. 29.
