U.S. Sen. Gillibrand's Bill Could Spur Debate On LGBT Adoption

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) recently proposed legislation to prohibit discrimination against LGBT people who wish to foster parent or adopt children, according to the Albany Times Union.

Gillibrand’s proposed Every Child Deserves a Family Act will face a battle in the Republican-majority Senate and House of Representatives, the Albany Times Union reported.

Gillibrand said the bill would only be geared at agencies receiving federal monies, and would make an estimated two million otherwise qualified people eligible to adopt or foster children, according to the Albany Times Union.
