The candidates from the “Committee for a Stronger Mount Vernon,” which includes Adriane Saunders, Robin Harmon-Myers, and Walidah Aime saw their names removed from any potential ballot after a judge invalidated their candidacy.
Aime was planning to run for City Comptroller, the other three candidates were hopeful of challenging the Democrats on the City Council. The legal action came following a lawsuit that was filed by city officials currently in office.
According to the judge, while petitioning their candidacy and collecting signatures in the community, the candidates failed to properly document several things and failed to witness certain signatures.
“The Court finds that the petitions filed by them, including the signature on the subscribing witness statement and the date and number of signatures collected, were all haphazardly executed without regard as to which of them actually collected the signatures,” the judge ruled. “This demonstrates fraud permeated the collection process.”
